Schroeder Field House
Schroeder Field House was dedicated during the Centennial Celebration on July 9, 2011. It includes a multi-purpose room, restrooms, and an outdoor drinking fountain. The 18' x 24' multi-purpose room includes eight heavy-duty benches with seating for 24, hooks for jackets, a beautiful children's sports mural, two large windows with unbreakable glass and a rubber floor to protect the floor from skate blades and to reduce slippage. Each restroom features two toilets with auto flushers, a sink, an unbreakable mirror and a high velocity hand dryer.
Since opening, the Field House has been used by residents, soccer players, cross-country runners as well as their referees and coaches. In the winter, it will be used by ice hockey players, figure skaters and sledders galore. In the Spring, baseball players will enjoy the proximity of the Field House to the baseball diamond. The Foundation donated $74,000 to the project while raising $66,000 from residents and organizations. Thank you to all who donated to this wonderful project.

Pickleball Equipment
The Foundation purchased four colorful pickleball paddles, two dozen yellow outdoor balls and a pickleball net. The city made the net poles. Click on the title of this section to see photos of the court and equipment.
Residents may borrow the paddles and balls from the park gate attendant. Just sign a form and leave your Park Pass with the attendant. For those not familiar with Pickleball, there’s a short laminated instruction sheet with the equipment or go to You Tube to watch this excellent two minute video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PO744W-StkA&feature=related. Street signage replacement program
The department of Public Works Director takes maintenance seriously and is very good at making things last longer than usual. Every other Spring, the poles are primed and painted. Every third or fourth Winter, lamp heads are brought into the DPW and the plastic panels are replaced. However, after 21 years, the 46 poles are beginning to rot from the inside due to aluminum oxidation which is creating a safety hazard. The poles are tipping over. Lamp heads are also reaching their useful life. Over the next several years, they’ll all need to be replaced.
In 2010, the Foundation began a six year joint replacement program between the City and the Foundation to pro-actively stay ahead of the problem. In 2010, the Foundation replaced three poles and two lamp heads and the City replaced the same. This year the Foundation will again replace three poles and two lamp heads.

Mulch for Trees on Lake Shore Road and Vernier Road
In late Spring of 2011, GPSIF introduced and approved a project to improve to add fresh mulch around the trees on the Lake Shore islands and along Vernier Road.
Too help keep costs low, DPW agreed to spread the mulch and completed the project in time to support the Grosse Pointe Shores Centennial Celebration. Not only does the mulch look good, it prevents damage to tree trunks and roots from mowing equipment.
